The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Minority Fellowship Program will host its 2ND Masters (Now is the Time-Youth) Fellowship Training Institute, in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 2018 NITT-Youth Training Institute, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), will be held at Drexel University from August 29 to September 2, 2018. The MFP is full of excitement to partner with Drexel University’s Couple and Family Therapy Program who will co-host the event. Philadelphia is notable for its displays of the American Revolution and its rich American history. The city boasts historic monuments such as the Liberty Bell and Carpenter’s Hall and historic events such as the Birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. Hosting the event in Historic Philadelphia will aid in the Training Institute atmosphere surrounding diversity, cultural competency, advocacy, social justice and equity.
The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT Foundation) Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) works diligently to provide additional training opportunities. The Training Institute aids in the advancement and professional development of Fellows in their academic and professional careers. The Minority Fellowship Program is a national workforce development program. Through collaboration with federal agencies (such as the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration or SAMHSA), the AAMFT MFP is dedicated to expanding the delivery of culturally competent mental health and substance abuse services to under-served minority populations. AAMFT MFP is also dedicated to increasing the number of culturally competent Marriage and Family therapists.
The Training Institute will enhance the Fellowship experience for Fellows and influence their training to continue to serve under-served minority populations The Training Institute will feature interactive seminars and advanced workshops surrounding the theme: Recognizing the Power of Change through Culturally Attuned Practice: Advancing & Advocating for Social Justice & Equity. The workshops provided will be led by distinguished scholars and clinicians within Marriage and Family Therapy. MFP Fellows will also have the opportunity to learn from and interact with practitioners in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy.
